At Borgo Santa Maria you can rent a single house, not only the entire hamlet: ten stone houses for 2 to 8 guests, each with its own kitchen, bathroom and private outdoor space, from €115 to €245 a night. Minimum 2 nights; in low season a week is charged as 6 nights instead of 7. Final cleaning, linen, Wi-Fi, a washing machine in the common area, parking, pool, park and sports facilities are all included. We are in Monteleone d'Orvieto, in Umbria on the Tuscan border: Orvieto 25 minutes away, Civita di Bagnoregio 50, Val d'Orcia an hour.

Families with children
No cars circulate inside the hamlet: the children walk out of the door and they are already on holiday. A pool with a shallow end, a football pitch, ping pong in the shade of the walnut tree, and a garden where fruit is picked by hand.
Couples
A small house just for two — Scuderia, Limonaia, Forno — with a table outside under the pergola for dinner. Sauna and wood-fired jacuzzi can be booked for the evening, and the wineries of Orvieto and Montepulciano are all around.
Two families together
Two houses side by side, each with its own kitchen and bathroom: the kids run back and forth, the adults meet for dinner only when they feel like it. Close, but not on top of each other.
Grandparents, parents, grandchildren
Meridiana has three bedrooms and two bathrooms on a single floor; the ground-floor houses spare the stairs to whoever would rather avoid them. Three generations under one roof without getting in each other's way.
Working remotely
Wi-Fi across the whole hamlet, tables in the shade, and a silence that by mid-morning is almost embarrassing. You work in the morning and you are in the pool by six. Torretta even has a study upstairs.
Out of season
From November to March the hamlet is empty and the fireplaces are lit. It is truffle season, new olive oil season, hill towns with no queues — and a week costs less, because you pay six nights instead of seven.

All of them have their own kitchen, bathroom and a piece of outdoors just for you. What changes is the size, the number of bedrooms and the view from the window. In low season a week is charged as six nights instead of seven: the column beside shows the discounted price.

The advice we give everyone: don't fill all seven days. Whoever leaves every morning goes home more tired than they arrived.
The days here
A long breakfast, the pool, the garden, a book under the walnut tree. You cook with what you bought at the market — this is the part families remember most.
Short trips
Orvieto 25 minutes away, Città della Pieve 25, Monteleone d'Orvieto 5. You leave after breakfast and you are back for the afternoon swim.
Long trips
Val d'Orcia, Assisi, Civita di Bagnoregio, Lake Trasimeno. One or two in a whole week: more than that turns a holiday into a tour.
